Truckee River Access Park Plan

The River Inn sits on one of the most beautiful stretches of the Truckee River — a rare place where rolling hills, wildlife, bird watching, rafting, hiking, and some of the best fishing on the river all come together. It is quiet, wild, and unforgettable — the kind of place outdoor lovers feel the moment they arrive.

After learning more about the City and County’s vision for river access, trails, recreation, and open space, we created a proposal to show how the River Inn could be part of that bigger picture.

Our hope was to explore a respectful partnership that could allow the community to enjoy the river, fishing, walking trails, history, wildlife, and natural beauty of the property while still protecting the land, the river, and private ownership.

This plan was created with care, research, and love for Reno’s past, present, and future.

Reno has a big and exciting vision: a connected network of trails bringing together neighborhoods, open spaces, the Truckee River, and the larger Tahoe–Pyramid Trail system.

We love that vision—and we would love to be part of it!

Our property sits near the Tom Cooke and Steamboat Ditch trails, both recognized in regional trail planning. We have offered our River Access Park Plan, our property, and our willingness to explore a safe and beautiful walking and bicycle connection.

It sounds like a perfect fit. So why isn’t our proposal part of the conversation?

Despite our efforts and invitations, the City, County, and trail organizations have not been willing to develop a workable partnership with us. That is both puzzling and disappointing, especially when their own plans encourage connected trails and cooperation with private landowners.

We are ready to bring the property, possibilities, and enthusiasm—but a public trail cannot be created by one private property owner alone. It takes willing partners, written agreements, funding, maintenance, insurance, security, and respect for private-property rights.

Our door remains open. If you would enjoy seeing this missing connection explored, please respectfully ask the City of Reno, Washoe County, and regional trail organizations to come to the table.

The trail vision is already on the map. The opportunity is right here. Perhaps it is time to ask why this willing property owner—and this potentially wonderful connection—have been left out of the adventure.

After nearly five years of bringing forward ideas, inviting collaboration, and trying to find a positive path, we are deeply disappointed that our efforts have not produced willing government partners. We remain hopeful—but if you have concerns about us or the future of these trails, we respectfully ask you to first look to your City and County officials. Ask why they have not worked with a willing private property owner on an opportunity that appears to fit the very trail vision they promote.
